I just introduced tuna patties to my kids, and they loved them. These same children would not go near the stinky fish store.
How to encourage your family to explore new culinary tastes?
History proves that hiding vegetables works, but for short periods.
Instead of hiding the spinach, cook it in a way that they have enjoyed other foods. For example pizza, place small amounts of spinach on the pizza, makes sure you salt it a little. Or deep fry / tempura batter fish or vegetables. How about a fondue and make it entertaining too.
Tonight we are going to have spaghetti and …wait for it… fish balls! Ground white fish a little binder, egg, onion, salt and pepper and away you go. Now it’s all in the presentation. Looks like regular spaghetti with sauce and meat/chicken balls but it has less fat and essential omega 3 oils. The tomato sauce camouflages the taste of the fish due to the acid levels of the tomatoes. Now you have an introduction, so the next time you want to introduce something yucky to them, you can remind them how much they liked the fish balls.
Rules to introducing new foods:
- Pay little attention to the taster
- No preamble
- Make sure a drink is available to wash the taste away
- Offer small pieces
- Let them take their time
When all else fails offer a bribe!
Everyone has an acquaintance or foe that they just loathe. Remember the 70’s; they had the battle of the stars. You know the show; they took your favorite “B” actors and put them on obstacle courses, eating contests (slight stretch) and the like to see which TV network team would win.
I enjoyed watching the dunk tank. I laughed so hard when they would sucker who ever was sitting in the chair. Let’s take this one step further. The amusement park, specifically the movies that had a scene that always had the pie-eating contest or the pie toss.
So put your foe’s name here_____ like Erkle, Pee-Wee, Arnold (Gary Coleman) you get the idea. Go to the Internet and download a picture of your nemesis or a picture of the high school bully from your yearbook and pin the picture on a dartboard and start throwing for the jugular.
Now, relax and enjoy your favorite pie, close your eyes and think of that pie throwing contest, you as the thrower. The satisfaction of the oozing pie drippings falling from the face of “the jerk”, the embarrassment of it all, ha ha! Isn’t artificial revenge the best!

What we put into our bodies doesn’t always come out. Colon cancer is one of the largest growing concerns of our nation. To rid yourself of toxins and allow you to feel lighter and healthier, take the 5-day cleanse.
If big name celebrities like Ben Affleck, Courtney Love, Andie Macdowell, Janet Jackson, Cindy Crawford, Paris Hilton, Alicia Silverstone, and Liv Tyler can do it why shouldn’t you?
This blog is about food and the equipment to create. Many of the foods for cleansing are meant to be pureed or juiced, consult your physician or dietitian which methods are best for you as well as the right program.
Sometimes your stomach gives you misleading information. Sometimes your hungry and really your thirsty, the best choice is to drink a cup of water and wait a couple of minutes, and then decide if you’re really hungry.
